With assistance from the US Fish & Wildlife Service and the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association, approximately 30 acres of former croplands at the Engel Conservation Area have been planted with seed mixes (

2007 plantings) containing over 50 species of native prairie wildflowers, grasses, and sedges. These prairies will provide habitat for native birds such as Eastern Bluebirds, Savanna Sparrows, Wild Turkeys, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Eastern Meadowlark, and many others. Butterflies and other colorful insects will utilize the vast array of flowering prairie plants.
