Wetland Restoration Minimize
Over 65 acres of land on the northern half of Engel Conservation Area have been enrolled in the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP).  NRCS provided funding to restore wetlands that had been ditched and drained for agricultural purposes.  These wetlands were converted back to their natural hydrology by plugging drainage ditches, disabling drain tiles, and creating shallow depressions.  The area was then seeded with native wetland and wet prairie plant species.  These restored wetlands with their adjacent prairies provide habitat for wildlife including many species of ducks and shorebirds.
