Muskego's retail establishments only account for approximately 10%
of the City's tax base, which is far behind other regional communities
who have an average commercial tax base of 22%.
Retail gaps in the local market were identified using household spending data and a retail forecasting model.
The following retail use categories exhibited the largest
differences between retail spending (demand) and retail sales (supply):
- Apparel & Clothing
- Bookstore
- Furniture Store
- Grocery Store
- Shoe Store
- Restaurant
- Hobby, Toy, and Game Store
- Targeted at growing economic sectors within the region
Muskego should consider attracting these types of retail
establishments to better meet the needs of its residents and broaden
its economic tax base.
