Clearwater can enter the sanitary sewage system in many ways, including leaky pipes and connections, often on a homeowner’s own property, which is described as Private Property Inflow & Infiltration (PPII). The increased flow from the PPII after a storm can cause problems throughout the system, including water entering the basements of homeowners. But basement backups are only a symptom. The problem is bigger and requires a bigger solution – full cooperation from all neighborhoods and homeowners. It’s a serious problem, and it will not go away. In fact, it will only get worse if we don’t get to work.
In cooperation with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, the City of Muskego has initiated the PPII Reduction Grant Program along with the Private Property Sanitary Sewer Back Up Prevention Program (BPP) and Grant Program. Both initiatives are currently only being offered to homeowners in those areas of the City that have homes that may be “at-risk” of suffering from a basement backup. The map below shows the homes that are currently eligible to participate in these programs. The program may expand in future years as the budget allows.
Please read through the literature below and should you have questions about the programs you may contact the City Engineer, David Simpson, P.E. at 262-679-5686 or by email at dsimpson@ci.muskego.wi.us or the City’s Consulting Engineer, Chuck Boehm at 414-225-5102, or by email at chuck.boehm@aecom.com.
